I love reading to my kids everyday, and I love trying to find new ways to make their favorite books come to life. One book that gets read a lot is the Eric Carle classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar. One day as I was reading this story, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be fun for the kids to eat what the hungry caterpillar ate. This is how it went.
Items Needed For This Simple Fun Activity:
1 Apple
2 Pears
3 Plums
4 Strawberries
5 Oranges ( I used cuties so the whole bowl wasn’t orange slices )
Steps For This Simple Fun Activity:
- Peel and split the orange slices
- Cut up all the other fruit
- Mix in a large bowl
We had such a fun time going through what all the caterpillar ate Monday through Friday. We also talked about the healthy food choices the caterpillar made during the week, but then what happened on Saturday when he ate too much. Fair warning, this does make a large bowl of fruit salad. This is also a great opportunity for your little one to practice their counting. My son said he loved the “caterpillar salad.”
