Whether your mornings are already chaotic, or you have all the time in the world, school will be starting before you realize. Here are a few things that we have incorporated into our morning routine that gets us out the door smoothly, on time, and ready for the day.
1. Prep the night before:
Don’t leave it all for the morning of, do as much as you can the night before. Make sure everything is in the bags or backpacks. Any lunches need to be made the night before and waiting in the refrigerator. Try to have everyone’s clothes picked out the night before, so it’s one less thing you have to think about in the morning. Do as much as you can the night before so you don’t have to worry about it the next morning.
2. Know where everything is:
Have you ever been running late, because you couldn’t find your keys or your kids didn’t know where they left their shoes? Before you go to bed, know where everything is. I would strongly suggest having a regular spot for certain things that everyone knows about.
3. Know your time line:
Really think about how much time you will need to get yourself and your kids ready and out the door. Just remember, every time you hit snooze, you’re taking time away from something else. Figure out how much time you need and stick with it. The more you prep the night before, the more you can sleep in the morning.
4. Give yourself some time:
I don’t know about you, but I’m so busy helping my children get ready, that I barely have time to get myself ready. Things became a lot easier when I gave myself time to get ready for the day before I woke my kids up. This quiet time also allows me to wake up and mentally prepare myself for the day.
5. What’s for breakfast?
Keep breakfast as simple as possible. If it takes a long time for your kids to eat, try something else. Frozen breakfast can be a real time saver. If you’re concerned about how healthy those choices are, you can always find or make healthier alternatives. If it is possible for you kids to have breakfast at school or daycare, maybe that is a better option.
6. Don’t get dressed too early:
Do all the messy stuff before your kids get dressed. Have them eat and brush their teeth before they get dressed for the day. The last thing you need is a wardrobe change.
I can’t guarantee you will always have the smoothest mornings, but I hope by incorporating some of these tips, you can get through the morning routine with your sanity in-tact.

Ooh these are some really great tips! I’ve recently gotten into the habit of getting things ready the night before and it truly is such a game changer. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for your comment. I know if I left everything for the morning, our morning routine would be twice as long.
I need to take this advice more. Getting ready the night before makes mornings less chaotic and gives you time to enjoy a slower morning routine and prepare for the day without feeling hassles.
Thanks for your comment. I agree, I need time to wake up in the morning. I don’t function well when I’m being rushed.
