Whether you work a full-time job or stay at home with your kids, it’s easy to get bogged down in all the day to day tasks that demand your attention. It is very easy to have many missed opportunities to build memories with your family. I had an idea to challenge myself to remember to take time for fun family activities, and I wanted to share this challenge with you, as well.
Activity Jar Challenge:
It’s a very simple challenge. Get a jar or a cup and fill it with about ten fun activity ideas. Throughout the week, draw a fun family activity to do with your kids
The Rules Of The Activity Jar:
- You and your kids need to make the jar together. Let them help with fun activity ideas.
- Everybody gets 1 veto.
- Let the kids draw the activity.
- Try to do the activity jar at least two to five times a week, depending on how much time you have during the week.
Some Things To Keep In Mind:
A couple things to keep in mind when you are coming up with activities is 1) Make sure you put activities in the jar that are weather appropriate, and 2) Keep the activities reasonable for the time frame. Try to stick with activities that don’t require you to leave the house, or anything else that would take longer than an hour to do.
Some Of The Fun Family Activity Ideas We Put In Our Jar:
- Blowing bubbles
- Painting
- Sidewalk chalk
- Reading a story
- Water play
- Watching a movie
- Having a dance party
- Racing cars
- Building with Legos
When We Put Our Activity Jar Together:
Just putting the activity jar together was a fun family activity. My son did need help coming up with ideas for fun activities, but everything that went in the jar was both parent and kid approved. His favorite part was getting to shake up the jar after we filled it.
The activity jar is a great tool to spend more family time together, and could work for all age groups. With more family time comes more sweet memories.
