I have been reviewing shapes with my four year-old, and we where needing a new way to approach it. He was getting bored with flashcards, and he needed a way to get out his energy. This activity is a great way to practice shapes and is very similar to a cake walk.
Items You Will Need For This Simple Fun Activity
– Cardstock, index cards, or construction paper
– A marker
– Scissors
– Tape
– A hard surface floor
Steps For This Simple Fun Activity:
1. Take your cardstock or construction paper and cut it in half.
2. On each pieces of paper draw a shape on them. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just as long as it’s recognizable. Depending on the age of your kids, you can keep it simple or more advanced.
3. Arrange them in a circle on the floor and tape them down.
4. Play music while your kids walk around the circle.
5. Stop the music, and have them name what shape they landed on.
6. Repeat until they get bored.
What Happened When We Did This Simple Fun Activity:
As you can see it got a little crazy after a while, but he had a lot of fun reviewing his shapes. This activity lasted a good forty-five minutes, and he was nice and tired afterward.
This is a great simple fun activity to get your kids up and moving and learning their shapes. You could also modify this activity to review letters and sight words.
