Story time is always something that we look forward to in our house. We love discovering new books, so here are some of our family favorites. For the month of July, I decided to share some of our favorite bedtime books. When my son was younger bedtime was always a bit of a struggle. Here are some books that made it a little easier for us.
Goodnight Moon
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd is a classic that I think everyone should have in their library. I love a good rhyming book with a great rhythm. Just read this book with a soothing voice, and your kids will be lulled to sleep in no time.
The Going To Bed Book
The Going To Bed Book by Sandra Boynton is also a great rhyming book with a good rhythm. The book takes you through the process that a group of animals go through getting ready for bed, from brushing their teeth, to doing night time exercises before going to bed. This book also ends on a very calming note.
How Do Dinosaurs
How Do Dinosaurs Go To Sleep? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague is an awesome book for those kids that just want to fight bedtime. I am a huge fan of the How Do Dinosaurs series, because my son loves dinosaurs and it always shows dinosaurs displaying negative behavior and positive behavior. This is a great way to start the conversation of how your kids should be going to sleep, helping them decide how they should go to sleep.
Good Night, Mr. Panda
Good Night, Mr. Panda by Steve Antony is a really fun book to read. I would say this is actually one of mine and my husband’s favorite books. One by one all the animals are going to bed, but Mr. Panda is reminding them of what they had forgotten to do before bed. This clever and funny book is entertaining for both children and adults.
Don’t Blink!
Don’t Blink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by David Roberts is a clever take on a bedtime book. This is a very interactive book that challenges the reader not to fall asleep by the end of the book. The book may seem like it’s trying to keep the reader awake, but it’s actually doing quite the opposite. This is also one that is an entertaining read for everyone.
These are just a couple of our family favorites and I hope you enjoy them as well.
