This August my first is about to start school for the first time. These are some of the books that we have been enjoying to get school ready
The Pigeon Hat to Go to School!
The Pigeon Has to Go to School!, written and illustrated by Mo Willems follows a very nervous pigeon who isn’t quite ready to start school. The pigeon is full of questions, from learning the alphabet to how he would get to school. This is a great book, if your little one is a little apprehensive about going to school.
Splat the Cat
Splat the Cat, written and illustrated by Rob Scotton, follows Splat the cat on his first day of school. He is so nervous to start school, he tries everything he can not to go. Splat saves to day during milk time and becomes the class hero. By the end, Splat learns that he is amazing and is excited about school.
David Goes to School.
David Goes to School, written and illustrated by David Shannon is about a very active little boy going to school. I know my son is such a ball of energy, that sometimes he needs a little reminder to slow down and remember how to listen, follow the rules, and interact nicely with others. This book is a great way to talk about what kind of behavior your child will chose at school.
Mister Cool
Mister Cool, written by Birdy Jones and illustrated by Tara Lynch is a fun and entertaining story about self-esteem. Mister Cool believes that he is so cool, and no one can convince him otherwise. No matter what anyone says he manages to turn all his critics and haters into his biggest fans. This is an awesome way to talk about bullying, and how to handle it. This book shows your child how bullies can’t hurt them.
Llama Llama Misses Mama
Llama Llama Misses Mama, written and illustrated by Anna Dewdney is a very helpful book if your child is starting daycare. Llama Llama is being left at daycare for the first time. He doesn’t like it at first and is very shy. As the day goes on he begins to enjoy daycare, and before he knows it, his mother is back to pick him up. This is a fun read, and has a great rhythm to it.
These are just some of the many books that my family enjoys, and I hope your family will too.
